Information for New Band Parents
What is Band, and what does my child do?
Band is a prestigious class where students learn to play musical instruments at a high level in a variety of settings.
Students will have the opportunity to form strong friendships, participate in activities on and off campus, all while gaining musical and life skills.
Why join the adair county band?
More importantly than learning a musical instrument, band provides life, social, and collaboration skills that stick with your child for a lifetime.
Students learn to make friends, manage social groups, teamwork skills, responsibility, communication, timeliness, and even more importantly, how to care. (Not to mention, future scholarship money for college!)
what will my child need to do / attend?
Adair County Middle School students will need to regularly attend school and band classes, and are expected to participate in concerts, and any related rehearsals.
ACMS students that are participating in the ACHS Marching Band will be expected to attend rehearsals and contests, as well as participate in the Travelling Pep Band in the spring.
Adair County High School students will need to regularly attend school and band classes, and are expected to participate in marching/concert band rehearsals or performances, as well as participate in the Travelling Pep Band.
For all students optional activities such as District and State Honor Bands, College Honor Bands, or Solo & Ensemble are available.
For a child to participate in Band, it is incredibly important that they show up for their team during rehearsals and performances. We are only as strong as our weakest link!
how can parents be involved?
Any parent of a Adair Band student can become an active and supporting band parent. Here are a few of the ways that our band parents chime in to help:
Bringing students to rehearsal frequently and on time.
Encouraging students to practice at home.
Encouraging students’ strong work ethics.
Come watch your child at concerts and performances!
Attending monthly Adair Band Booster meetings.
Volunteering at Adair Band Bingo!
why is being an active band parent important?
To run a band program takes a village.
All students benefit from the activity of volunteering band parents.
Adair Band Bingo helps to provide a majority of the funds for the functioning of the band program. Dedicating time to work Bingo means directly contributing to your child’s success, as well as the success of other students.
Decisions regarding the functioning and direction of the Band program are made during the monthly Adair Band Booster Meetings.
Parents in charge of aspects such as Food Committee, Prop Committee, or Uniform Committee, or Transportation work to make sure that students are fed during trips, have functioning and safe props during the marching season, have well fitting and maintained uniforms, and that all necessary equipment travels with the band.
Not to mention, being active in the parent community means finding lifetime friends and having fun in a way that benefits the chances of your child’s success!
But I’m not sure how to start being active?
Most band parents start off not knowing how to do the different volunteer jobs at the Bingo Hall, or how to help with Food, Uniforms, Props, etc. That’s normal!
When asking our current band parents what advice they would give new parents, the most common statement is to “Go ahead and start!”
Every bit of help, no matter how big or small, with or without experience is great! Current parents are always available and willing to show you the ropes. All it takes is showing up!
